If that’s not enough, within a 40min drive The Tongariro Crossing and Waihohonu Traverse/Tama Lakes are two of New Zealand’s best.
For MTB enthusiasts, mountain bike trails include the Ohakune Old Coach Road (dual walking/biking trail), Bridge to Nowhere [Mungapurua Valley], which forms sections of the Mountains to Sea Cycleway and Lake Reserve/Ratamaire Rd. Many more great trails are accessible by transport from the motel such as the iconic 42nd Traverse and Fishers Track. Jet boating and kayaking on the upper Whanganui River are also great summer activities. (See our summer activities page for more details/information). Trout fishing is popular in the Mangawhero and the Manganui O Te Ao streams which are within a short drive with some great catches reported.
For the winter snow season, Turoa Ski field which offers superb skiing and boarding with the Nga Wai Heke lift opening up the southeast basin area for some great terrain, making Turoa NZs premier skiing venue.
